Local Fly Tying

Well I have had the pleasure of being able to get around and tie flies with quite a few tiers. You can learn so much from these sessions I would state its one of the best things you could do to improve your tying skills. I have had the pleasure of tying with guys like Tim Hiltz, Mike MacKinnon, Robbie Hiltz, Paul Marriner and Paul MacDonald to name just a few. There are local groups across the province that gather to share their tying experience and fishing stories and I would like to list them so tiers can not only know the when and where to go but also who to contact.

Mahone Bay Fly Tying

In Mahone Bay on Tuesday nights from the first week of November until the last week of March there is a group of us share space at the MUG AND ANCHOR on Main Street. If your interested in joining us you can contact me through the site for more information.

Kitchen Tying

Being from Cape Breton we are famous for what is known as the kitchen Party. Here we are at my place with our fly tiers version of a kitchen party. This great bunch of guys gathered to tie with me and my son to help him stay interested. The flies were fishable, the stories believable and the food is always a great way to end an afternoon.

Fly tying in Stellarton

I have had the pleasure to sit in on this group while on course in New Glasgow. Parker Wong is the one that heads the course and if you are at all interested in learning I would highly reccomend sitting in on this session. They get together at the Town Hall in Stellarton and for a small fee all the materials and tools are supplied for the night. All ages and skill levels are present and some fine teen tiers which is great to see. The nights I sat in they were tying classic streamer patterns and it was $2 cover for the materials used. You could not have supplied the hooks alone for that price let alone the knowledge of Parker!!! If interested contact him for more details parker.wong@ns.sympatico.ca .

Antigonish Fly Tying

There is a group of fantastic tiers get together every second week in Antigonish in a local church hall. Some very knowledgeable fly tiers represent that area and is quite worthwhile stopping in to share their experience.

Flies and Lies (Sackville)

There are a group of fly tiers gather at the Legion in Sackville on Tuesday nights. Some tiers there are very active in protecting our Nova Scotia Salmon as well as promoting our sport. They are also fabulous tiers that are more than willing to help.
