The Canadian Killer
« on: August 19, 12:29PM »
Here is a  step by Step  for the Streamer The Canadian Killer.  The list of materials needed to tie this is below.

Hook:        Streamer size 8 -2
Tag:          Flat silver tinsel
Tail:          Small bunch of yellow hackle barbules
Butt:         Peacock herl
Body:        Red floss
Rib:          Flat Silver tinsel
Throat:      Sparse brown hackle, collard and tied back
Wing:        Sparse red bucktail over which a teal flank feather flat on top
Source:     Stewart, D. and Leeman, B. (1982) Trolling Flies for Trout and Salmon

Step 1:   Take your thread and make a base on the hook.  Tie in the flat silver tinsel

Step2:    Tie in the yellow hackle fibres for tail

step3:   Add Peacock herl For butt section

Step4:    Bring Thread to the front again and tie in a starnd of red floss long enough to wind down and back on the hook shank to form the body

Step5:   Bring back and tie off

Step6:    Wrap the tinsel Ribbing back to the head and tie off

Step7:     Add small bunck of bucktail to wing leaving slightly longer than the length of the hook

Step8:    Tie in a nice Teal feather for the overwing.  The key to this is to tie it in flat like many of the famous Jim Warner Streamers.  It creates a very sleak  fly that produces many large fish

Step9:    Tie in folded Hackle wind 5 wraps and create head. Whip finish and tie off coat with cement

I got to say I love the flatwing patterns and especially love this one but I have never had a lot of fishing success with this fly.

Jamie

I will be posting pics just as soon as i get home in july and get to fishing again ! It has been a long deployment so far, productive tho as we have had 4 drug busts to date for a total of 1315kg of herion taken from the hands of the "bad guys" That is the largest haul ever taken by any ship of any country on a single deployment. Back on topic, I dont know if i will be making the trip to NL this year or not, but if i do i will most likely be fishing the Exploits as it is just minutes away from the in-laws. Time will tell, Thanks for the SBS !
