Trout
« on: November 04, 11:37AM »
Here is a list of Trout flies from members which they would not consider fishing without,  We ask each member to make a post with a pic of their fly and recipe.  This can be used as a quick reference for any new tier or fisherman to maximize their time on the water.

During the summer about half of my trout are on this Adams variant. I dead drift it 90% of the time, but it is also great swung or stripped under the surface.
At least 15 trout had it in their mouth before the picture,so it is a bit scruffy. I caught Brookies, Browns, and Bows this day all in about 200m of river.

Hook: Dry fly hook sizes 8- as small as you can tie.
Tail:  Brown hackle fibers.
Body: Adams color dubbing. Bury a few wraps of thread in to the dubbing for extra durability.
Wings: Either calf tail or goose shoulder split and tied upright.
Hackle: Grizzly, white, Light or brown dry fly hackle. Any of those colors have worked well for me.
Head: Small black or white thread head.
Long rods, and loud reels.

Here is a little all purpose dry fly.  It is a good imatation for spring stones and just about and caddis.  I tie a lot of these in natural deer hair with a black thread body, but it is worth while to tie a few in yellow, black, chartruse, green, orange, and olive.  It is a simple fly; just three or four stacks of deer hair, so it is a quick box filler.

That is a great fly, I tried a few of those this season. Your tie is spot on, I bet the brookies loved them.

you cannot sink the ausable bomber, very rugged dry fly, and yes the brookies love that fly as soon as the hatch begins.

yes it is, I use hares ear plus- Rusty Orange, But any dry fly dubbing will work. I have tried the ausable bomber in different colors and rusty brown with white or chartreuse post have been the most productive on the brooks i frequent.
